Service in the Nave
Welcome to St. Thomas of Canterbury!
Liturgy
Corporate worship is the focus of our life as a parish community. Most of our services are Eucharists, celebrations of Holy Communion. We normally use Rite II of the Book of Common Prayer, except during Lent when we use Rite I. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Communion.
Who We Are
He said to them.... "Come and see." (John, 1:39)
Services at Canterbury are characterized by joy, spontaneity, and a relaxed but faithful atmosphere. Dress is predominantly casual, consistent with the University community that we also minister to. There are no "rules" dictating worship practices such as kneeling vs. standing or the use of ceremonial gestures. Each person is supported in worship in whatever manner is most comfortable for them.
Laughter,
applause, comments, and wandering toddlers are common occurrences
on any given Sunday. Our furnishings are movable, making for unusual
flexibility , and once in a while they will assume a different
configuration to signal a change of liturgical seasons.
Canterbury observes traditions - making them our own and honoring them in our own unique way.
